Scotland - The country of Bagpipes, Kilts and Whisky. But that's not what Scotland is, at least not all that Scotland is. Scotland is a country of wild rough nature and astonoshing beauty , rich on history, friendly people, mountains, glens, lochs, flora and fauna. Come with me on a journey exploring this special place, valueing its unique atmosphere, getting to know its inhabitants and unique history. Scotland, a country like no other, seen from the eyes of a non native, feeling home there.

Rating out of 5: 4

Source: Walkhighlands                             40 min (about 3km; walking around freely)

Reasons:

This route is a very lovely one, easy to reach by car (with a car park right at the start) or by bus from Galashiels/Edinburgh/Hawick and by that easily accessible from all of the borders. Given it is in the middle of Selkirk you don’t expect a calm walk like this one, but it really is a nice place.

Wandering about through the trees, enjoying the sound of the winds over the loch and in the trees.

My number one suggestion here is to orientate yourself at the route provided on Walkhighlands. Orientate but not limit yourself to it! There is much more to be seen in the Haining. Such as different parts of Selkirk Castle being excavated. For this you will have to leave the way provided at times but it for sure would be interesting to see.

All in all this route is nice to enjoy and deserves the 4 stars (it would have gotten 5 if more sights of the area would have been included).
