Reasons:

The Salmon Leap Walk, starting from Selkirk, offers a great opportunity for a short stroll as a couple or as a family as well as for someone just seeking some peace and quiet time on their own. With the walk being part of a big path network in the area it is easily adapted to a shorter route or even a longer one depending on one’s wants.

First heading along the river before emerging into woodland the opportunity to soak up tranquillity at its finest is easily offered and only involves getting into the beautiful town of Selkirk which alongside this walk has lots to offer. While this walk is a joy for your senses, big parts involve taking good care of where you step since the riverside paths often are very uneven and eroded.

If a rainy or a sunny day this walk is suitable for either of them due to the easy route adjustments, you can make. Following only a small street in Selkirk it is relatively high on my list of short walks since most of them do require lots of road or street walking compared to their length.

My personal tip for warm days is to take off your shoes at the meeting of the Yarrow Water and the Ettrick, it makes for a beautiful and calm picknick spot for sure, but then it might be very busy during the summer months, I visited at the end of April when it was still cool most days so no one to be seen far and wide except of some dog walkers.

Due to the amazing opportunities connected and the beauty of the route combined with the only little street walking this route is getting a 5-star review from me. Offering so many great places to stop and let your thoughts and busy days just be forgotten for a while.
